Beginning in the 1800s, indegenous children were forcibly removed from their families and placed in "Indian Schools", often managed by religious organizations. Abuse, mistreatment, and lack of proper medicsl care resulted in 973 documented deaths within these schools. At the very least it's time for the United States to officially apologize for its role in funding this system of fear and intimidation that lasted well intp the 20th century.
